HANA'S SUITCASE
It is March 2000. A child's suitcase arrives from
Auschwitz at the tiny Holocaust Education Centre in

LAWYERS WITHOUT RIGHTS: THE FATE OF JEWISH LAWYERS IN GERMANY AFTER 1933
November 1 is the official opening of an exhibit highlighting
the destruction of the legal justice system in
Germany after 1933 and the fate of Jewish lawyers. It
tells the personal stories of the devastating impact
Nazi policies had on men and women whose only
crime was practicing law and being Jewish. It is a
chilling reminder of the importance of lawyers to the
rule of law. The exhibit is open Monday - Thursday 9am
to 9pm; Friday 9am to 3pm; Sunday 9am to 5pm. Group
tours available by calling 416-635-2883 x114.
Co-sponsored by Consulate General of the Federal Republic
of Germany; the Consulate General of Israel; and the
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies.

ORATORIO TEREZIN
This full length work, by Canadian composer Ruth Fazal,
is scored for symphony orchestra, children and adult
choirs and three vocal soloists. Using some of the
children's poetry that miraculously survived the ghetto of
Terezon, Fazal weaves them together with passages from
the Hebrew scriptures. The musical piece is a tribute to
the 15,000 children who passed through Terezin between
1941 and 1944. A mere hundred survived. With support
from the UJA Federation Holocaust Centre of Toronto and
B'nai Brith Canada.
Tickets are $35-50. Call 416-872-1111 or
visit www.ticketmaster.ca to purchase tickets online.
