ADELE'S WISH

This documentary (2009 Vancouver), deals with racism and confession, bureaucracy and personal courage, which all collide in the pursuit of justice. It tells the remarkable story of a 93-year-old Los Angeles woman's struggle to recover five rare paintings by renowned Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, stolen from her family by the Nazis in 1938. For six years, Maria Altmann and her lawyer, E. Randol Schoenberg, battled Austria for the return of these family treasures. The legal dispute became a political, cultural and ethical confrontation that forced Austria to re-examine its role in Nazi art theft and its antisemitic past. Directed by TERRANCE TURNER and produced by Timothy Turner. The paintings can be viewed at http://www.adeleswish.com/paintings.htm

The director will be available for questions after the screening.  Limited seating. Registration recommended.
